IFQ Friendship FAP event opens

A new IFQ FAP event

Submitted by: IFQ
Tuesday May 11, 2010

We just love FAPs (Fiber Art Postcards) at IFQ and every other month, we offer a new FAP exchange event featuring a new theme.

But, since we just can't stop making FAPs, we've added a new FAP event as well. This is an ongoing event where you can sign up any time to make an IFQ Friendship FAP for another member. This is a great way to make a new quilting friend!

You can only sign up for one FAP at a time. Once your partner has received your FAP, then your name is released and you're welcome to sign up again.

In this event, you will be assigned a partner as soon as another person, with whom you have not exchanged in this event, signs up. The co-hosts, Nathalie and Dany, will assign partners "on the fly" as people sign up.

Once you have been assigned a partner, you will receive an email with your partner's email address (so be sure that your email filters are set to receive an email from friendFAP@friendshipquilters.com). Then you must contact your partner within 3 days and introduce yourself and tell her a little bit about yourself and your interests. Your partner will use this information to help her create your very special FAP. Oh, and don't forget to give her your postal information so she knows where to send your postcard!

Visiting this event's forum is very important. You need to let the hosts know when you hear from your partner, when you send your FAP and when you receive your FAP. The last part is especially important since only when you let us know that you have received your FAP will your partner be allowed to sign up again. So don't stop her fun and do give her the chance to sign up again by posting in the forum right away when you receive your FAP.

This event is a great way to get some "FAP-ping" in whenever you want! And don't forget, we'll still have the themed FAP events every other month as well! Like I said, we just can't get enough of FAPs here at IFQ!

IFQ ATC Collectibles Fiber game returns

Round 18 of the IFQ Collectibles event

Submitted by: IFQ
Tuesday May 11, 2010

Back by popular demand, the IFQ ATC Collectibles event will return. In this fun event, participants are given a letter or a number after signing up. They will use this as inspiration for a set of five Artistic Trading Cards. These will be swapped at the end of the event, with the goal being to collect a sample of each letter and number. We even have a fun pattern for an ATC wallhanging to hold all your cards.

What is an ATC? Small cards that measure 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. Think of baseball trading cards - but created with fabulous fabrics and embellishments!

And these cards are created for trading - just like all trading cards! It's always fun to see what other members come up with! And since it's a small project, why not try a new technique?

Be sure to check past ATC Collectibles photo galleries to be inspired!

Sign ups open May 15th.

IFQ Sashiko BOM

A fun Block of the Month using the japanese technique of Sashiko

Submitted by: IFQ
Thursday April 01, 2010

IFQ has yet another Block of the Month series. In the IFQ Simply Sashiko event, the blocks are created using the Japanese technique of Sashiko. Every month we offer a new design with which you can practice your new technique!

This technique also comes with a tutorial on the technique to get you up and running fast. We've also held a chat on the subject and hope to hold another one in the future. In the meantime, there's the IFQ Simply Sashiko forum where you can find answers to any of your questions!

Delyse Upton has created all of the stunning designs for this BOM and you'll want to thank her in the forum too!

So be sure to join in the IFQ fun by signing up for this event!

IFQ Spotlight event returns!

This time, we're looking at the technique of Shadow Appliqué

Submitted by: IFQ
Sunday March 21, 2010

It's time again for the next IFQ Spotlight event - where we shine the IFQ "spotlight" on a specific technique. This go-round, we're looking at the technique of shadow appliqué. We promise you're going to love it!

As we always do in the IFQ Spotlight series, we offer a tutorial on the technique and then a small, fun project that uses the technique so you can practice what you've learned! At IFQ, we think it's great to learn new techniques in our journey to practice "quilting beyond the borders".

The newest IFQ Spotlight event will open on March 30th. Be sure to sign up and join us in our Shadow Appliqué project!

The IFQ Chatroom re-opens!

Come see the new IFQ Chatroom!

Submitted by: IFQ
Tuesday February 16, 2010

The re-vamped IFQ Chat Room, the ol' Diamond Lounge, has re-opened. And it's a completely different experience! Let's just say it's visual and AURAL! Well, you'll see what we mean when you come visit.

On the IFQ home page, there is a chat status box at the bottom of the page. Here you can see how many people are in the IFQ chatroom and who they are! These boxes also appear at the top of the more recent event pages.

If there is no one in the chat room, why not go in anyway and sit for a while. You'll probably find that someone will come and join you soon!

We have some interesting topic/chats coming up. Our first will probably be on Silk Ribbon Embroidery, so be sure to check the IFQ TownCrier often for news on these chats!

Chat Room Login

If you have trouble logging into the chat room....

Submitted by: IFQ
Wednesday June 25, 2008

Our chat room log in is dependent on the forum log in. When we renovated the IFQ forum, the password system changed a bit. So if you haven't gone into the chat room since the forum changed, you'll need to log into the IFQ forum once before going into the chat room. This will place your login into the new system and you'll be set to go!

We hope to see you soon in the ol' Diamond Lounge (IFQ's chat room!)!

IFQ Chat Etiquette

The finer points of Chatting

Submitted by: IFQ
Friday March 14, 2008

We at IFQ all love the chat room. It's a great place to make new quilting friends and catch up with old IFQ friends. The IFQ Ol' Diamond Lounge (as we call our chat area) is open 24/7 so no  matter where you're located on the globe, it's open for you!

Some members have never chatted before joining IFQ so we thought it would be helpful to run through some basic Chat Room Etiquette.

1. The chat room is a public place and not a private meeting room. Therefore, everyone is welcome! When some one new enters the room, be sure to greet them and include them in the conversation. It's a good idea to catch them up quickly, by saying something like "Mary Lou and I were just talking about roses" so they can join in quickly.

2. Did you know that if you type in capital letters, in internet language, that means you're yelling? For people who have been around the internet for a while, it's very disturbing if they are typed at in capitals. So be sure to watch the Caps Lock key!

3. There are a lot of abbreviations for chatting like, BRB (be right back) and LOL (laughing out loud). If you are chatting with a newcomer, they might need a little help sometimes with these!

4. When leaving the chat room, remember to log out. Otherwise, your name will appear on the list and it will look like you are ignoring everyone! The sign off button is on the left hand side. Don't forget to use it!

The most important thing to remember is to INCLUDE EVERYONE in the chat, just as you would in real life.

If you haven't tried the chat room yet, be sure to do so soon. We promise you'll find it addictive!

Here is just a quick note on Emily's progress.

Well, here we are a year later and Emily is now 14 months old. She is starting to walk and gets into something all the time. I have attached a picture of her. As she gets older I am hoping to join all my Quilting Friends in more activities here at IFQ for the fun of it. I see some fun projects coming up on the calender.

I hope to see you around the site in the meantime my friends.

A very Special Thank you From Kaylene and Winston

To all our wonderful friends, mates, buddies and pals at IFQ

Monday May 25, 2009

To all our wonderful friends, mates, buddies and pals at IFQ,
We would like to Thank you all so much for all the Get Well wishes during Winston and my last hospital admission and while I have been ill.
Thank you also for the lovely cards and gifts that we also received from our friend, mates, buddies and pals and the IFQ angels.

I am home now a little earlier than expected and its all Thanks to Winston.

Because I have Winston my doctors let me come home early. Winston is doing a wonderful job alerting me to all my hypos (low blood sugar levels). The doctors and specialists have all said that without Winston I would have to spend many many months in hospital.

I would also like to take this oppurtunity to say a big Heartfelt Thankyou for all the quilt blocks that I have received over the last  few months.

Thank you so much Love and Big Hugs,
Kaylene and Winston xxxxxx

Thank You

To all my friends

To all my wonderful friends here on the chat room and the forums and the events I am participating in .....

I have been spoilt with some wonderful cards and letters and small presents over the past 3 weeks and also a wonderful gift from the IFQ angels which was much appreciated whilst in hospital. I have been allowed home whilst waiting for the next procedures in a couple of weeks and am in good spirits and reasonable health - more tired than anything.

Once again thank you to all.

Thank You for your Hand of Friendship

A BIG THANK YOU TO THE IFQ ANGELS

Submitted by: Carole Benson
Thursday January 22, 2009

After going through a very rough patch in the fall (both my daughter and I were very ill), my spirits were lifted up by the unexpected receipt of some lovely gifts from the IFQ Angels. The angel wall hanging is now above the head of the bed where my daughter sleeps and the lovely little bag is home to some special treasures of mine.

I don't think the Angels can realize the warm and cared-for feelings that were the result of their wonderful hand of friendship. My love goes to each and every IFQer who has volunteered to be an Angel.
